Dj, Hit Making Producer, and Remixer this is what Lenny Fontana is known for. Over the past years he has shown to be a leader who sets new trends in dance music. He was born and raised in New York City -”The Melting Pot” and this is where he gets his street music smarts in creating all those new sounds. Even till now with the ever changing paths that are happening today he has embraced the change and now will succeed to conquer in this new world of electronic music. He feels it is a rebirth or a second coming. This new genre of music has taken him back to a time when Acid House had just begun and it was fresh and exciting. He has now accepted the world of elecktro to become part of who he is today……….
In the early days “I started listening to the mastermix with Shep Pettibone on 98.7 F.M. Kiss New York in 1982 and was dazzled by his fantastic editing skills and great music. This started my passion to be a DJ and to buy records. I immediately went out and purchased turntables, a Bozak mixer and my Technics Reel to Reel, and practiced what I had been hearing on the radio, from the years of 1982 till 1986. For then I was awarded my first big break at New York’s “Underground” in Union Square.
Until that glorious moment I played at private and house parties to learn how to play to a crowd. I will say that going to the Garage and Better Days had a major impact on me as far as wanting to be a DJ. These guys who controlled every emotion that went on in that room for a day where worshiped like they were Gods. It was such a great experience to get to see all this and to be schooled on how to play to audience of that caliber. And that education was invaluable to me.”
In terms of production, Lenny’s big international break came with the song “What You Need”, produced by him under the name Powerhouse feat. Duane Harden, which instantaneously hit the top 15 on the pop charts which locked a spot in the 11 postion in the U.K. and Europe. This record hit the mainstream with its video being played constantly on MTV in the U.S., Mexico, and Europe. They even did live performances one of them being on the legendary Top Of The Pops show in the UK.
DJ Magazine proclaimed that the single was a neck ahead in the annual Most Hammered Tune at the Miami Winter Music Conference contest.” Dance Music Authority calls “What You Need” “a club anthem”. The track became popular with DJs like Danny Rampling, Little Louie Vega and Tony Humphries. Lenny Fontana has played his part in the history of House music. The year after he had the hit with Defected came another big record that hit top20 in the UK which was “Chocolate Sensation” which was released on FFRR/Warners. This now proved that he can create pop records from a great dance record. He has now reconnected with Defected Records again and just released his new record “The Way” which showcases the legendary Octah’via form CandC Music Factory on the lead vocal.
When it comes to DJing, Lenny Fontana has worked stateside for some of the most highly respected promoters including “Free Bass Society”, “Together”, “Harmony”, and “Good Vibe Crew”. Producer, musician, composer, remixer & DJ – Rasmus Faber has many strings to his bow. In his early years he mastered the skills of the jazz piano, and worked as a musician for many years, before falling in love with house music and production in the year 2001.
His debut release was courtesy of UK label Black Vinyl back in 2002, the inspirational ‘Never Felt So Fly’ captured many peoples hearts, bringing together the warming soulful tones of fellow Swede Melo, with the sweet musicianship & guile that Rasmus is so well known for to incorporate into his sound.
After two original releases on US label Sub-Urban and remixes for, among others, E-Smoove and Kenny Bobien, people were starting to show this young swede some serious attention.
He was hunted down by Defected Records chief Simon Dunmore to remix a forthcoming Dubtribe Sound System release.
Simon was so pleased with the work Rasmus delivered he quickly snapped up this unquestionable talent offering a management & label deal - Farplane Records was born. Soon after he got to rework Junior Jack’s monster hit ‘E-Samba’. Recording new vocals & completely reinventing the original, Rasmus´ remix went on to be played throughout the summer by the likes of Morillo, Tappert, Sanchez & Morales.
Released in 2003, ‘Ever After’ was Farplane Records’ debut release, and went on to become a major hit and a timeless classic. This took Rasmus Faber’s career to a new level, and after a faultless line of equally successful releases (such as ‘Divided/United’ and the Axwell remixed ‘Get Over Here’), his name was fully established as a major player, his production trademark being combining dancefloor friendliness with flawless musical quality.
Recent years Rasmus have been as busy as ever, flying around the world performing doing live shows, and DJ-ing in his own unique style, playing the piano over his DJ sets. He has had global sucess with his music, in Japan even crossing over heavily into the commercial public, with chart topping albums and singles releases. New musical adventures are in sight, both exploring the musical fields completely outside of the dance scene, as well as going deeper into the more big room sounds of house, releasing harder and more electronic tracks and remixes under the RaFa moniker.
Rasmus remains highly active in the studio, being asked to work with labels including Defected, King St, Salted, Code Red, Seasons, Shifted Music, Soulfuric, Knee Deep, Soundmen on Wax & Nero Records, while Farplane Records continue to grow as an outlet for quality house music. His endless talents & ambitious attitude have taken him across the globe. Completing remixes for such artists as Miguel Migs, Jay-J, Axwell, Sandy Rivera, Oreja, and Reel People only cement the fact that this talented Swede, still only in his late 20’s, is in high demand, and at the peak of his game!
New single: Rasmus Faber feat Linda Sundblad “Everything Is Alright”
December 8th marks the release of Rasmus Faber’s new single “‘Everything Is Alright’”. An ambitious, masterful blend of deep, musical house with a heart of pop, ‘Everything Is Alright’ will put Rasmus on the map as a crossover act on a par with the likes of Roisin Murphy and Basement Jaxx. Take the colours of Robyn, 4 Hero and some fresh nu-disco, mix them up and you get a picture of ‘Everything Is Alright’. An uplifting, cinematic dawn of pianos and strings gives way to the sugary, innocent vocals of Linda Sundblad, which roll out to the end - half a song structure, half a house 12”. In the ambient tradition of ‘Smokebelch 2’ and ‘Offshore’ remixes, Rasmus provides the ‘Chillax mix’, taking the track to new heights of airy brightness. Lovebirds, (who already have fans in Prins Thomas, Ashley Beedle, Tom Middleton and Bill Brewster) deliver vocal and instrumental remixes, perfectly pitched between cosmic disco and shiny new house. Spiritchaser member and Guess & Duffnote Records label boss Richard Earnshaw provides more house flavours whilst Rasmus also provides a clean, infectious and building Club Mix.
